Fergie, full name Samantha Fergus, is originally from the DMV area. Her artistic journey is rooted in resilience and competition, values shaped by growing up among older siblings. From an early age, she learned perseverance and the drive to push herself to succeed. A natural love of sports mirrored the discipline instilled by her family, reinforcing her belief that success requires both grit and creativity.

Fergie’s path took an unexpected turn when she enlisted in the military as a pastry chef, earning multiple awards for her culinary skill. Even while deployed, her need to create persisted—she doodled between missions, exploring design and visual language. After leaving the military, she committed fully to art. Today, her work challenges conventions, confronts societal boundaries, and seeks to disrupt the traditional art world with fresh, questioning perspectives.

my mommy is a marine
Coming winter 2026
Marine Corps veteran Sarah Callen and Navy veteran Fergie Fergus come together to honor the often-unrecognized service of women veterans. While many children’s books about military life center on men, My Mommy Is a Marine places women veterans at the forefront—celebrating both their service in uniform and the lasting ways they continue to serve their families and communities after leaving the military.

Told from the perspective of a veteran mother speaking to her child, the book offers a personal and affirming portrait of moms who have served, giving young readers a rare and meaningful point of connection.
